Chatting With Strangers Safely

Random chat can be a great way to meet new people. Knowing the basics of how rchat works and following a few common-sense rules will make the experience better for everyone.

Who can use rchat

rchat is for adults aged 18 and over. By using the service you confirm that you are an adult. Minors should not use this platform.

If you encounter someone who appears to be a minor, please leave the chat immediately.

What you share with strangers

When you match with a stranger, they see only:

No email address, phone number, location, or device information is ever shared with your chat partner.

How rchat protects you technically

๐Ÿ”’ Anonymous identity

Your browser generates a random secret key. The server stores only a SHA-256 hash of it โ€” not the key itself โ€” so it can recognise you without ever being able to impersonate you or link your identity to your messages.

๐ŸŽฅ Text only โ€” no camera, no microphone

rchat never requests access to your camera or microphone. Nothing is recorded. The chat is entirely text-based by design.

โšก Message rate limiting

Automated controls limit how quickly messages can be sent, helping to prevent flooding and spam.

๐ŸŽš๏ธ Mutual matching filters

When you set an age or gender filter, the match only happens if the other person's filters also accept you. Filtering is always mutual.

Tips for staying safe

Don't share personal information

Avoid sharing your real name, address, workplace, phone number, social media handles, or any other identifying information with a stranger.

Leave if anything feels wrong

Press Stop or close the tab the moment a conversation makes you uncomfortable. You don't owe a stranger an explanation.

Be careful with links

Think before clicking links sent by strangers. They may lead to harmful or misleading sites.

Be respectful

The person on the other end is a real human. Treat them as you'd want to be treated.

How to leave a chat

You can end any conversation at any time by pressing the red Stop button, pressing Esc, or simply closing the browser tab.

The other person is immediately notified that the chat has ended, and no further messages can be exchanged.

If something goes wrong

If you experience abusive, threatening, or illegal behaviour: leave the chat immediately using the Stop button or by closing the tab.

Because rchat is anonymous, we cannot identify the specific individual who sent a message. However, if you have concerns about safety or abuse on the platform, you can contact us.
